How To Care for Your Waterwear and Swimwear

The same way most women are with shoes, we wish we could have and an endless wardrobe packed with leggings, bikinis, and rashguards! Alas, for most of us, this remains but a dream, so we have to do our best to take care of our cherished swim and water wear. Platinum Sun is known for using some of the most quality materials on the planet, but still, there are a few things you can do to make sure your favorite shred-proof gear goes the extra mile.

Our tips on how to care for your waterwear and swimwear:

Rinse in fresh cool water

Whether you’ve been in salt water or a chlorine swimming pool, it’s important to rinse your water wear in fresh water as if you leave it, the chlorine and salt can over time damage the fabric which can ruin the feel, fit and pattern. We always recommend hand washing as often our outfit only needs a quick freshen up, but if you do use the washing machine, set the temperature to cold and use a mild soap since regular detergent can be harsh on the material.

Dry With Care

Most of us don’t think about how we dry our babies, but first things first, don’t use the dryer! It’s the quickest and easiest way we know, but over time the intense heat can break down the material. The best way is to lay the garment out in a shady well-ventilated area, or in front of a fan. Especially for bikini bottoms, if you hang them up to dry, the water pools up in the bottom causing the material to stretch. No one wants a saggy bottom! Fortunately, all of our products are quick drying so you can head out for your next water session faster than you can say Platinum Sun.

Take control of the sand

As much as we love sandy beaches, sand in your bum can be pretty uncomfortable. The best way we have personally found to remove sand that has wangled its way into the material is while underneath the shower, gently stretch the material so the water can wash out the grains of sand stuck inside. If there’s a particularly dense area, move it closer to the shower, and the pressure of the water should remove any last grains of sand.
